ENERGY & THERMAL MANAGEMENT

WP-Lead: IESTA

Partners: AVL, ElringKlinger

Duration: 15 Month

Main Target:

Goal is to set up an optimized cooling system for a PEMFC. This system will dispose of very efficient cooling performance which shall be mainly made by optimized components and control strategies.

Therefore an oversizing of the components shall be avoided. By the integration of this to the vehicle extended statements shall be made towards the thermodynamic behaviour of the whole powertrain for different road profiles like mountainous trails (highest cooling demand).

TRL:

Beginning of project: TRL 2 (technology concept formulated)

Expected TRL end of project: TRL 3 (experimental proof of concept)

Main Tasks:

  • 6.1 Requirements Analysis for PEMFC
  • 6.2 System concept development for PEMFC
  • 6.3 Data Collection for System Development PEMFC
  • 6.4 PEMFC System Development
  • 6.5 PEMFC Vehicle Integration & Optimization

Methods:

The optimization of the cooling system can be examined via 1D-simulation. At least the cooling circuit must be represented to illustrate the optimization measures. Ideally, the cooling circuit model is connected via co-simulation to a fuel cell model and a longitudinal vehicle model. Therewith, extended statements can be made towards the thermodynamic behaviour of the whole powertrain for different road profiles like mountainous trails (highest cooling demand).
