PEM SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT, DIAGNOSTICS & CALIBRATION

WP-Lead: AVL

Partners: ElringKlinger, HyCentA, IMM

Duration: 21 Month

Main Target:

  • Design, development and build-up of a ~50kW PEM system
  • HW and SW implementation of diagnoses functions into the power electronics equipment
  • Development and Implementation of algorithms for detection of critical operating conditions
  • Development of methodologies for PEM system calibration
  • PEM System testing

TRL:

Beginning of project: TRL 2 (technology concept formulated)

Expected TRL end of project: TRL 5 (technology validated in relevant environment)

Main Tasks:

  • 7.1: PEM System Design & Development
  • 7.2: Implementation of algorithms for detection of critical operating conditions
  • 7.3: Methodology development for automated model-based calibration
  • 7.4: PEM system testing

Methods:

  • 3D CAD Design with CATIA or ProE
  • PEM System simulation by CRUISE M Flow
  • Design Verification by CFD and FE methods
  • Stack and system diagnoses based on electrical impedance and harmonic distortion approaches
  • GFRF parametrisation based on system level model
  • Testing on a 170kW PEM System test rig
  • HiL testing with HW on the test rig and SW coupled via a real-time simulation interface
  • Model-based calibration with a real-time PEM system model
  • Multi-dimensional non-linear optimization of calibration parameters by DoE methods
